Mad About Musicals! Film Series - The Band Wagon (1953)
The movie musical is one of the most distinctive American art forms. From the development of sound in motion pictures, audiences have been enthralled with the singing and dancing of some of Hollywood’s brightest stars. Moments from some of the greatest musicals are engrained into our culture. Join us as we track the development of this film genre from its beginnings to its heyday of the 1950s, and on to Broadway show adaptations and rock musicals. See some of the biggest stars of yesteryear in iconic roles, including Lena Horne, Judy Garland, Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Ann-Margret, Dick Van Dyke, and Liza Minnelli. A brief discussion will follow each film.
