Understanding AI: From Basics to Beyond

Please join Marisa Wilson, for this three-part series that introduces AI. Marisa has more than twenty years in content marketing and digital design, including global brand work at HP. She translates complex AI topics into clear, human, and occasionally funny explanations.

Session 1: What Is AI, Really? (And Why You're Not Behind)
Most of us learned about AI from science fiction, tech headlines, or that one coworker who won't stop talking about ChatGPT. In this first session, we cut through the noise and start from scratch — no jargon, no assumptions. You'll learn what AI actually is, how tools like ChatGPT and Claude work in plain language, and why your skepticism is actually an asset. By the end of the hour, you'll have tried AI hands-on for the first time (or the first time it actually made sense) and walked away with a clear picture of what it can — and can't — do for you.

Session 2: AI in Your Everyday Life — Practical Tools for Real People
Now that we know what AI is, let's put it to work. In this hands-on session, we explore the AI tools most useful for everyday tasks: writing emails, summarizing documents, researching topics, planning projects, and more. No coding, no subscriptions required — just your phone or laptop and a willingness to experiment. We'll work through real examples together, troubleshoot what goes wrong, and talk about how to get better results by asking better questions. You'll leave with at least three things you can try at home that same evening.

Session 3: Is AI Safe? What to Trust, What to Question, and How to Stay in Control
The question everyone's thinking but not always asking out loud: should I actually trust this thing? In our final session, we talk honestly about AI's limits — when it gets things wrong, how to spot it, and what privacy considerations matter for regular users. We'll also look at what's coming next and how to keep learning without feeling overwhelmed. The goal isn't to make you an AI expert. It's to make sure you walk away feeling informed, not anxious — and confident enough to keep exploring on your own terms.
