High Noon with Neal Cobb: An Overview and History of the Nevada State Railroad Museum

A presentation of the Nevada Historical Society, High Noon with Neal Cobb is a monthly history series that delves into Nevada topics with local experts. Neal Cobb is a passionate historian and honorary curator for the Nevada Historical Society. Each month, he is joined by a different guest presenter.

This month’s presenter is Adam Michalski, curator of history at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City.

For almost 50 years, the Nevada State Railroad Museum has been part of the Carson City community. The museum staff and volunteers have worked tirelessly to preserve and interpret the history of Nevada railroading throughout that time. Michalski will give an overview of the Nevada State Railroad Museum, including: its history, highlights of the archive and photo collections, stories about some of the key locomotives and railroad equipment in the collection, educational programs, current projects in the restoration shop, and more.

Michalski has served as the curator of history at the Nevada State Railroad Museum since 2023. He served as the curator of education at the museum from 2014 to 2023. Adam has had a lifelong love affair with trains and railroading. He enjoys researching the history of the Virginia & Truckee, as well as the railroads he grew up with in the Midwest, such as the Milwaukee Road and the Chicago and North Western. In his free time, he loves to travel, especially by train.
