Nevada Historical Society presents High Noon with Neal Cobb, a wonderful history series that delves into fascinating Nevada topics with local experts. Neal Cobb is a passionate historian and honorary curator for the Nevada Historical Society. He loves all things Nevada. Join Neal Cobb and our monthly speakers as we explore interesting topics and join in the audience conversations.

Whether you call it lake Bigler, lake Tahoe or the lake of the sky, it is truly one of America’s scenic and historical gems. When people visit this wonderful lake shared by both California and Nevada, many have no idea of the rich history that surrounds them from logging to its forests to support the mines in Virginia city, the many mansions built along its shore by the rich, the Steamboat that sailed its waters and the roads and railroads that brought people from near and far to savor all that Lake Tahoe had to offer.

Jim Bonar will take us on a trip around the lake in the early 20th century and share with us a collection of old photos and videos of the lake and little-known tidbits.

October Speaker: Jim Bonar, Historian

Jim is a locally retired High School teacher, ending his teaching career as a Math teacher at Sparks high school. He became interested in roads as a young child in Green River Wyoming while watching the traffic passing through town, on Highway 30. This encouraged him to study and research many western events.

Jim at present is Director, and past president of the Nevada chapter of the Lincoln Highway association. He became interested in the Western trail’s movement while studying his family history. His Great-Great grandfather was one of the first men to bring emigrants to the new settlement of Salt Lake City. He is also a member of many of our local and state historical societies, now, for his retirement activities, he gives presentations, and tours, of Western historical topics involving emigrant trails, early roads, and other western events.
