Tahoe Talks: Civic Engagement Series

Tahoe Talks: Civic Engagement Series

For 2024, the Tahoe Talks series will focus on citizen engagement and discuss recommendations for improving our democracy from Our Common Purpose: Reinventing American Democracy for the 21st Century. May's topic is US Supreme Court Term Limits with special guests Judge E. Alan Tiras, Incline Village - Crystal Bay Community Township Justice Court, and Chrystn Eads, Esg., Chief of Staff, National Judicial College.

Our Common Purpose, a report from the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, suggests establishing, through federal legislation, eighteen-year terms for Supreme Court justices with appointments staggered such that one nomination comes up during each term of Congress.

Whether you support or oppose court term limits, join us for this discussion with community members and local experts as we weigh the pros and cons of this topic and learn how we can better engage with our government.
