The Bias Inside Us Exhibition Event: Building Inclusive Worlds

The Bias Inside Us Exhibition Event: Building Inclusive Worlds

Fantasy and science fiction can build whole worlds for us to explore. How do we build these worlds with everyone in mind? Together, we'll look at examples of inclusive worldbuilding in pop culture (Nimona, Arcane, She-Ra, among others) and brainstorm how to create our own worlds that share the complex natures of our own.

Naseem Jamnia is the award-winning author of The Bruising of Qilwa, which was a finalist for the 2023 Crawford, Locus, and World Fantasy Awards. Their middle grade horror debut, Sleepaway, about a summer camp that can bring dreams—and nightmares—to life, comes out in 2025 from Simon & Schuster. Find out more at their website, www.naseemwrites.com, or on Instagram, @jamsternazzy.

The Bias Inside Us is organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service. Major support is provided by The Otto Bremer Trust.
