Crafting with a Purpose - Welcome Blanket Project

Crafting with a Purpose - Welcome Blanket Project

Have you ever wanted to learn how to knit, crochet, sew, or quilt?

Join us at the North Valleys Library for our summer initiative "Crafting with a Purpose: Welcome Blanket Project."  Makers across the country craft Welcome Blankets for recent immigrants and refugees to the United States and share stories of their family’s own immigration.  Museums and other organizations throughout the country exhibit these works to amplify the effort.  After they are shown, the blankets are distributed through refugee organizations as symbolic and practical gifts of welcome for our newest neighbors. To date, over 6,500 blankets have been made and gifted.

This summer North Valleys Library will be running our “Crafting with a Purpose” program focusing on completing blankets for the Welcome Blanket project.

These blankets will be distributed to local new Americans after the exhibit in collaboration with Northern Nevada International Center (NNIC), an organization that serves new Americans from all across the world.
